Balázs holds degrees in geography and jazz drumming. He has toured extensively in Europe, and visited the east coast of Australia and many of the Western Pacific islands while playing on cruise ships. He is an avid traveller, spent up to a month each backpacking in India, Thailand, Cuba, Peru, Namibia and South Africa. He has worked with wildlife on three continents: Onca Wildlife Sanctuary and CIWY's Parque Ambue Ari in the Bolivian Amazon, Cheetah Conservation Fund in Somaliland and Bornean Orangutan Survival Foundation on Borneo. Ha qualified as a trails guide in South Africa, and worked as such in Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape.
